Subj: Gap Vertical Date: Fri, May 19, 1995 5:17 AM CDT From: NX7K@aol.com Sender: owner-dx@ve7tcp.ampr.org To: dx@gpu.unbc.edu A couple of weeks ago I asked for information and experience concerning the installation and operation of GAP Voyager Vertical for 160, 80, 40, and 20 meters. I received many replies some favorable and some not so favorable. Generally the synopsis was the antenna was a good dummy load for 160 meters for working DX but was acceptable if one could not install a full size vertical or inverted vee. Much better on receive than transmit. Generally the comments were pretty good for the 80 meter and 40 meter operation. The 80 meter band is covered with less than a two to one swr over the phone nad cw band, no tiner required. the antenna seemed to perform pretty well on 40 meters also, however the yagi is much preferred. Generally the comments stated the antenna sucked on 20 meters. Almost unanimously the comments stated the antenna needed to by guyed in accordance with the instruction manual. Don't cut corners here. The factory recommended counterpoise was almost unanimously used. Deviation here resulted in squirrely operation and variations in swr. I hope this information is helpful. I am going to move forward with my installation, (per the book). Mainly the installation is for 80 meters and a backup for 40 and 160. 73 de Wayne, NX7K
